چکیده

Results A hundred and twenty nine patients (69M:60F) were included in the study. The age of the patients ranged from 2 months (m) up to 64 years old (mean= 96.2m; median=48m). The following serogroups were identified: type C, 36.4%; B, 20.2%; W135, 1.5% and 41.9% had no serogroup identified. CH50 and AP50 values were below the reference levels in 48 patients (37.2%) and 97 patients (75.2%), and the activity was undetectable in 5 and 15 patients, respectively. Levels of CH50 and AP50 were both low in 46 patients (33.65%) and in 8 were both undetectable. Properdin levels were performed in patients with low AP50 (n = 44) and 43.2% had decreased properdin value. MBL values were below 50 micrograms in 2/26 patients evaluated. One patient was diagnosed with C6 deficiency after the second meningitis.

Deficiency of the eighth component of complement associated with recurrent meningococcal meningitis--case report and literature review.

The authors report a case of deficiency of the eighth component of complement in a young adult with a history of three episodes of meningitis; one of them proved to be meningococcal. The literature was reviewed and meningitis due to Neisseria meningitidis strains causing disease in complement-deficient and complement-sufficient patients was demonstrated. Meningococcal disease may be the first m...

Cerebrospinal fluid immunoglobulins and complement in meningococcal meningitis.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) immunoglobulins (IgA, IgG, IgM) were measured in 107 patients with meningococcal meningitis. Levels were correlated significantly with CSF total protein, and both CSF immunoglobulin and protein increased with age. C3 was measured in the CSF of 38 patients and was also closely correlated with the CSF protein level. C3 breakdown products were found in all six CSFs tested...

A Case of Meningococcal Sepsis and Meningitis with Complement 7 Deficiency in a Military Trainee

Complement component 7 (C7) deficiency leads to the loss of complement lytic function, and affected patients show increased susceptibility to encapsulated organisms infection, especially Neisseria meningitidis. Recently, we have experienced a 20-year-old military trainee with meningococcal sepsis and meningitis who was diagnosed as having C7 deficiency based upon the undetectable serum C7 prote...

A Korean familial case of hereditary complement 7 deficiency

Meningococcal infections can be associated with abnormalities of the complement system, which contains 5 terminal complement proteins. Furthermore, deficiencies in 1 of these 5, complement component 7 (C7), leads to the loss of complement lytic function, and affected patients show increased susceptibility to recurrent meningococcal meningitis and systemic Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection. In Sep...
